It is hard to imagine a Dallas Cowboys season without some level of frustration and controversy heading into the year. Failing to pay Micah Parsons while the price continues to skyrocket appeared to be this year's frustration. It was a familiar story with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb following a similar script. Parsons isn't causing drama despite having every reason to hold out or demand that the Cowboys provide security.

However, it isn't Parsons who is making early waves with the surprise news that the franchise has fined corner Trevon Diggs $500K for missing team workouts.

Giving a key player this level of fine is eye-catching for a number of reasons.

Franchise owner Jerry Jones commented on the situation, offering that Diggs was expected to "be leading" based on his salary and standing in the organization. This is a fair sentiment in some ways, but it is hard to give the corner too much heat without fully knowing the situation. Whether it is a personal issue going on in the corner's life or simply a lack of interest makes a world of difference in how this is viewed.

Cowboys Make Headlines Fining Star Corner Trevon Diggs

The fact that Jones is speaking so confidently against the lack of presence of the star speaks volumes. However, it wouldn't be the first time the franchise owner has spoken out of turn or reacted poorly to a situation. Letting the full details emerge and understanding what is going on with Diggs is important before casting full judgment.

With that said, if the corner is simply not showing up due to a lack of interest while being available, it is an awful sign for the season. There is zero reason for any member of the Dallas roster to be content with where the team is currently. Coming off a 2024 season where the team missed the playoffs and fell behind two hated division rivals.

Diggs is going to have to answer a lot of questions about this and attempt to explain why things boiled over to this point. No question, this is a huge story that will continue to generate attention from Dallas fans and media as training camp continues.
