The Dallas Cowboys failed to put any sort of pressure on Caleb Williams in Week 3. Not only did they not sack him, which, given his history and shaky offensive line, is alarming on its own, but they gave him a clean pocket all day long.
That led to him having one of the best games of his young career, completing 19 of 28 attempts for 298 passing yards and four touchdowns. With Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers up next, that's not a good omen.
Jadeveon Clowney Will Make His Cowboys Debut
That's why the Cowboys will turn to their latest addition in Week 4. According to team insider Jon Machota, Jerry Jones just confirmed that the former No. 1 pick will take the field to face the Packers on Sunday:
"Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said he expects DE Jadeveon Clowney to play Sunday against the Packers," wrote Machota.
The Cowboys signed Clowney ahead of the game with the Bears, but they surprisingly chose not to activate him. Needless to say, that decision backfired, as he could've made an impact even if it was on limited snaps.
Jerry Jones Says Cowboys Need More Pressure
Clowney isn't at the peak of his powers anymore, but even though he never truly lived up to the expectations as a generational pass-rusher, he can still put some pressure on the quarterback. Per Jones, that's just what they need right now:
"We had the perfect storm. The play on the front didn't match what we were doing in the back. Zone defense is a safe defense. It should allow, when played right, shorter gains but not big plays. If you do a zone defense and you limit your rush by number then that's the perfect storm against you. You got to be able to stop explosive plays. When you don't have it, you have to make adjustments," said Jones, per Machota. "The answer is yes, yes, yes, we have to have more pressure."
Clowney is no Micah Parsons, but after watching the Cleveland Browns obliterate the Packers' offensive line in Week 3, he might be a light at the end of the tunnel.
The Cowboys will host Micah Parsons in his first game back in Arlington after his trade. It will be a painful reminder of the player they could and should have anchoring the defense for them, and he will be extremely motivated to make a statement.
