The Dallas Cowboys have had an impactful offseason after coming off a 7-10 season. They made a big move on the trade market when they acquired George Pickens. That helped improve the offense, but they also made some quality additions in the 2025 NFL draft.
The Cowboys had rookie minicamp run from May 2 to May 4, and that gave them their first opportunity to see these guys up close.
Shavon Revel Jr.'s Stock is Rising After Cowboys Rookie Camp
Several guys stood out on the field, and CB Shavon Revel Jr. is someone who fans could see fly up the depth chart. He was selected with the 76th overall pick in the third round. Going into the year, he was expected to be a first-round pick, but fell down the board due to a torn ACL he suffered in September.
He's expected to be ready for the start of the season. The Athletic's Jon Machota wrote about some observations he witnessed at minicamp, and Revel is someone who stood out.
Machota wrote, "Height was also noticeable with Revel, but for the opposite reason. He looked every bit of 6-2 as he worked off to the side on the resistance cords. To compare to other Cowboys starting cornerbacks, Trevon Diggs is 6-2 and DaRon Bland is 6-0."
He added, "A healthy starting trio of Bland, Diggs, and Revel looks good on paper. However, Diggs is also working his way back from a significant knee injury that could cause him to miss the start of the season. If he’s not ready for Week 1, Dallas could be looking at a starting trio of Bland, Revel and either Kaiir Elam or Caelen Carson."
The Cowboys plan to take things slow with Revel over the summer, as they plan to keep him on the physically unable to perform list to start camp. There's confidence he'll be off that list during camp and be ready for the start of the season.
In 24 collegiate games, Revel Jr. had 70 total tackles, 15 pass deflections, and three interceptions. He has great ball skills and owns a big frame that makes him an intriguing threat in the secondary.
His traits in combination with Diggs' status for the start of the season are murky, making Revel Jr. a candidate to flip the entire depth chart. And he could make an impact on Day 1.
