Cowboys Seemingly Ignoring Player's Request for More Playing Time
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys will have a new starting quarterback under center for Week 10 after Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury that will sideline him for multiple weeks.
Cooper Rush, who has been the Cowboys’ backup QB for several seasons, will be getting the start against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It didn’t come as a surprise to see Dallas go that route, given his experience and the team wanting to compete for a playoff spot.
However, the Cowboys have another quarterback on the roster, Trey Lance, who brings a different element to the position. Lance was acquired by Dallas last preseason from the San Francisco 49ers and has been the Cowboys’ quarterback.
Based on how this season has gone, some Cowboys fans would rather want to see what Lance can do over Rush. But for now, Lance will back up Rush.
On Wednesday, Lance spoke to reporters, expressing his desire to get play and confidence in running the Cowboys’ offense.
“I’d love the opportunity to get on the field any way I can, if that’s what coach thinks is best … I feel like I’m in a real good spot,” he said (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic).
Lance was also asked if he felt confident in his ability to run Dallas’ offense and responded with “Absolutely”.
The former first-round pick received most of the playing time in the preseason this summer and showed flashes of greatness and some bad plays. However, the bad is expected as Lance has only played in eight career games.
That said, if Rush doesn’t play well against the Eagles on Sunday, there will be calls for Lance to get an opportunity.
