The Dallas Cowboys are refusing to tank, and whether you like that decision or not, it has led them to play some fun football over the last couple of games. Unfortunately, Thursday's huge win over the New York Giants didn't come without its drawbacks.

Injuries plagued the Cowboys all afternoon, with a few key starters getting banged up — especially on the offensive side of the ball. The team wasn't releasing much injury info in real-time during the game, not even announcing that CeeDee Lamb was injured at all, for example, but we are finally starting to get some news out of the postgame interviews.

The first update is coming straight from the source, as starting tackle Tyler Guyton announced that he has suffered a high-ankle sprain. This is a potentially significant injury, and it puts the Cowboys in a bit of a tricky situation.

Dallas isn't technically out of playoff contention, so if Mike McCarthy, Jerry Jones and company are serious about trying to salvage the tiny sliver of hope that the team could earn a Wild Card spot, they'll want their starters out there if at all possible.

Guyton hasn't exactly been an effective option at left tackle, but losing any starter on the offensive line is going to sting.

If the team is focused on the future, however (to say nothing of tanking), then the rookie's health and long-term outlook should be the top priority, and that would mean taking a very cautious approach with the return from an injury that we often see cost players multiple weeks.

Chuma Edoga filled in after Guyton made his exit on Thursday, and honestly played pretty well in relief. It's also worth noting that Edoga has a significantly higher grade from PFF this season (65.5) than Guyton (50.6).

With a viable backup available and the playoffs almost surely out of reach, it seems obvious to take a cautious approach with your rookie. Avoid rushing him back. But McCarthy and Jones haven't exactly been doing what fans think is obviously correct this season, so we'll have to keep a close eye on this one.
