The Dallas Cowboys are in what is arguably going to be the toughest division in football. Neither the Washington Commanders nor the Philadelphia Eagles are going anywhere, and after a strong 2025 offseason, Dallas must be counted in this trio of contenders. Having time to get healthy and adding dynamic receiver George Pickens has put the franchise back into the national discussion. This is primarily due to offensive talent and having the threat of Micah Parsons on the other side of the football.
However, if there is one remaining concern for the team's offense it is the lack of an established run game. It haunted Dallas in the 2024 season and continues to be the biggest offensive concern. It has been surprising that the team hasn't attempted a trade or signing of a blockbuster addition. It appears the team is content to have a handful of interesting options compete for carries. Oddly, this has included a special-teams star who has quickly won over Dallas fans.
The Cowboys Need Turpin's Speed Consistently Involved
“KaVontae Turpin remains an option out of the backfield under Brian Schottenheimer. He saw multiple snaps at RB today and took a carry outside left.” https://t.co/cIOHEtvCy0

Special-teams weapon KaVontae Turpin has been taking handoffs early in Dallas minicamp. This doesn't come as a huge surprise when you consider Turpin's speed and the threat he can pose within the Cowboys' offense. The franchise would be wise to consistently find ways to have his speed on the field outside of the return game.
Even if Turpin isn't consistently getting the football, having the threat of his speed is going to push an opposing defense on its heels. This is why the team will continue to attempt to utilize the speedster within the offense.
Adding Pickens alongside CeeDee Lamb also helps the threat of Turpin by putting incredible pressure on the defense. No longer can you focus all of your attention on Lamb and simply dare anyone else to make a play. The Dallas offseason has put the team in a position to have one of the better offenses in the conference.
This includes Turpin, who needs to touch the football as much as possible around feeding the Cowboys' stars. The elite speed and ability to make would-be tacklers miss are what makes Turpin so incredibly dangerous. It promises that anytime the returner has the football in his hands, there is a threat that something great will happen. With this in mind, it would be a surprise not to see Dallas continue to work Turpin into a suddenly exciting Cowboys offense.
