The Dallas Cowboys have been in the news this week thanks to rumors of their interest in former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. While Clowney was in town for a visit on Wednesday, he left the Cowboys' facility without having agreed to a contract.

For most free agents at this time of the year, that would have been an end to any speculation over an addition to the roster. This is America's Team, though. Owner/general manager Jerry Jones & Co. operate on a different playing field than the rest of the league, whether it is warranted or not.

With that being said, perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise that head coach Brian Schottenheimer is still teasing a Clowney signing while meeting with the media.

Schottenheimer Teases Clowney Joining the Cowboys in Comments

During his session on Friday, Schottenheimer fielded several questions, with one focusing on Clowney and the visit he conducted earlier in the week. As you would expect, Schottenheimer believes there is a chance he becomes acquainted with the feared pass rusher sooner rather than later, and he expressed that much to Clowney.

“Good visit. Talked to him again yesterday," Schottenheimer said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "This is one of those deals where it’s a business decision. There are two sides that have to come together. It was a great visit. We’ll kinda see how it plays out.

"When I talked to (Clowney) yesterday he was cooking dinner for his kids. Talked to them. His son goes: ‘I don’t know you.’ And I said, ‘Well, you might. You might soon.’”"

The fact that a potential signing is still even a topic of conversation in Dallas is intriguing enough. The Cowboys' desire to add Clowney to the fold seems quite clear. It's the type of move that America's Team should be pursuing after trading away star pass rusher Micah Parsons last month. Whether it is the Cowboys or Clowney himself, slow-playing things is inconsequential.

Given Schottenheimer's recent remarks to one of Clowney's children, Dallas could be adding another pass rusher to the defensive front in the not-so-distant future, making it a situation worth monitoring.
