The Dallas Cowboys’ world continues to turn, and the drama has the secondary spinning like a gravitron. Cornerback Trevon Diggs has been the epicenter of the Cowboys' issues ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Denver Broncos, as his concussion has become a mystery in terms of how it happened and how much time he’ll miss because of it.

Diggs’ week began by getting sent home by the Cowboys' medical staff on Monday, and owner/general managerJerry Jones announced that he’ll miss Sunday’s game due to the injury. But things got weird when Jones didn’t elaborate on Diggs’s status beyond this week, and head coachBrian Schottenheimer told media reporters they would have to ask Diggs if they wanted to know how things went down.

While Schottenheimer added that a stint on injured sounded “premature,” via team reporter Tommy Yarish, Cowboys executive vice president, CEO, and director of player personnel Stephen Jones added another twist during an interview on 105.3 The Fan on Friday afternoon.

“He’s had several things going on that pertain to past injuries,” Jones said via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “So there are things we’re looking at there. We haven’t ruled out (injured reserve). We’ll look at that tomorrow as well.”

Trevon Diggs’ Future in Dallas Is Growing Murkier

The only thing for certain with Diggs this season is that nothing has been for certain. Diggs enjoyed an All-Pro season with an NFL-high 11 interceptions during the 2021 campaign and signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension following his second straight Pro Bowl selection in 2022. But Diggs tore his ACL two games into the 2023 season, and his time has been tumultuous ever since the injury.

Diggs played in 11 games for the Cowboys in 2024, but Jerry Jones criticized him for not returning earlier this offseason. Diggs was also recovering from a knee procedure for most of the offseason before returning on a full-time basis this fall.

While he’s played in six games, Diggs hasn’t been the same player, allowing 11 receptions for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 15 targets this season. He also made headlines by publicly vouching for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to play more man coverage, and the latest injury saga has sparked rumors of a potential trade ahead of the Nov. 4 deadline.

Of course, Stephen Jones denied those rumors when he was asked if Diggs had played his last game with the team.

“We haven’t even gone there,” Stephen Jones said. “We’re just obviously taking this thing week to week, trying to see how we can get him 100% healthy to where he could help us.”

Diggs’s drama is just one subplot in a secondary that is allowing the second-highest net yards per attempt this season (7.2). If he can’t get healthy, the odds say he likely won’t be traded, creating another question this offseason. Facing an important game, it’s something the Cowboys need to get straightened out as they look to contend in the NFC.
