Now that OTAs and mandatory minicamp are over, it's time for the Dallas Cowboys to start putting the finishing touches on what'll wind up becoming the final 53-man roster.

After missing out on the playoffs after three straight 12-win seasons, the franchise underwent a reset and now expects to compete for a division title. By bringing in new players to turn over a new leaf, however, Dallas is guaranteeing that some veterans won't make the team.

Unfortunately, one fan favorite is likely on the chopping block and needs a miracle to stay with the Cowboys this fall.

Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn Needs a Miracle to Make Roster

Vaughn, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft after a spectacular career at Kansas State, has just 40 career rushes for 110 yards and 10 catches for another 58 yards. He chips in on special teams as a return option, though his limited playing time in a bad backfield speaks volumes.

Now, the Cowboys have brought in Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams in addition to drafting Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. By bringing in four new players as competition, the organization's actions spoke volumes about their lack of trust in Vaughn. At 5-foot-6, he lacks the required size to handle a full workload. While he held up well in college, Vaughn projects as a gadget-type player at best at the professional level.

The writing is on the wall, though. Unless Vaughn improves in pass protection and somehow beats out Mafah and Blue, he'll be the fourth or fifth option at a position that likely only sees three players break camp. Vaughn is getting work as a wide receiver this summer, and it's possible that he carves out a role in that regard, though fans shouldn't expect him to be a legitimate option at running back.

He's a great teammate and an excellent locker room presence, so hopefully he can turn things around. That said, it sure feels like Vaughn is in the midst of his final summer in Dallas.
