The Dallas Cowboys locked up Dak Prescott to a long-term contract in order to be their leader in the huddle on the offensive side of the ball and now they are looking to do the same with his counterpart on defense, Micah Parsons.
Contract negotiations can always be tricky, especially when it comes to deals like the four-year, $240 million pact Prescott agreed to with the Cowboys last offseason, and Dallas' quarterback offered the team's star defender some advice about how to handle everything that comes with negotiations like this.
"I don't have the full answer for it or I think all of mine would've been done a lot earlier than they were," Prescott said, via DallasCowboys.com. "For him, just stay positive. Understand and make sure that his team knows what he wants and what he believes."
In addition to the advice on how Parsons should approach this from his perspective, Prescott also publicly stated just how confident he is in his Cowboys teammate as a player as well as a leader.
"Very confident in [Micah Parsons] and what he can do," Prescott said. "Who he is and what he wants to is as important as anything. And that's in being a leader."
That confidence in Parsons and all that he brings to the table was expressed by Jones during the league's annual meetings as the owner of the team was, naturally, asked about negotiations with his star defender and what he was looking to see from Parsons before extending the long-term offer he is looking for.
"In every aspect of Micah, he's got great potential to do more," Jones said. "Every aspect, whether it be in my mind physically or from the standpoint of physically, he has a lot of potential and he is so capable mentally that he could make us all follow him a little bit."
"I think he's that kind of individual and that kind of person. But I will tell you that those are the kinds of things that I want to personally have total and complete satisfaction that I've got a commitment from him, and that I can see that it's not just contract talk."
It seems like more of a matter of when rather than if Parsons will agree to a new deal with the Cowboys to keep him in Dallas for years to come. As Prescott told his teammate, the best thing he can do in the meantime is just stay positive while he focuses on helping the Cowboys bounce back during the 2025 campaign.
