The Dallas Cowboys desperately need to fix their defense. They will now look for their fourth defensive coordinator in as many years, with Brian Flores being one of their potential candidates. Unfortunately, it seems like Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders are also keeping tabs on him.

"The Commanders are hoping to interview Vikings DC Brian Flores for their vacant defensive coordinator job, source said. Flores’ contract is up in Minnesota, so he is able to look at other similar jobs," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, that's not going to stop the Cowboys for also making a run at him.

Brian Flores Should Join Dallas If He Wants to Be a Head Coach Again

The Cowboys' defense hasn't been any good since Quinn left to be the head coach of the Washington Commanders. Likewise, the Commanders fired defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. for the same reasons. Now, Flores would be taking a reclamation project with either team. However, he should be looking at homes in Arlington if he knows what's best for him.

Flores has been vocal about his desire to be a head coach. He's earned that right and paid his dues after years of success with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings. He's clearly overqualified to continue being a defensive coordinator. That's where Jerry Jones comes in.

For those who may have forgotten, Flores has an ongoing lawsuit against the NFL. He's accusing the league of racism after his dismissal from the Cowboys, which is probably the only reason why he hasn't gotten another head coaching position again. So far, only the Baltimore Ravens have contacted him about that type of job.

It's not a secret that Jerry Jones is the most powerful owner in the entire league. What he says goes. As such, Flores would benefit tremendously from building a relationship with him, which may only happen if he finally fixes his team's defense.

Of course, this is him playing the long game, and that may only happen if he doesn't get the Ravens' head coaching job. And, given how committed Jones claims to be about fixing the defense, he would probably have a say in roster-building and more power than the average assistant coach.

The Cowboys probably shouldn't be interested in hiring someone with head coaching aspirations, given that they desperately need continuity on the defensive side of the field. Then again, Jones has been quite candid about the clock ticking for him and his desire to win now. If that's the case, there's no doubt that Brian Flores is the right guy to fix Matt Eberflus' mess.
