The Dallas Cowboys head into 2025 with Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach. They hope he can be the one who rights the ship for the organization.
Dallas had to watch Dan Quinn leave to become the Washington Commanders head coach in 2024 and led them to a 12-5 record, including an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. This offseason, Washington continued to make additions to the roster, which saw Deebo Samuel get acquired.
The Commanders are hoping they take the next step in 2025, but they may have a problem on their heels. According to Jordan Schultz, WR Terry McLaurin wasn't at Wednesday's practice. Phase 3 of the offseason workouts runs from May 27 to May 30, June 2 to June 6. This will be a situation to watch.
Terry McLaurin Missed Wednesday’s Practice
McLaurin is heading into the final year of his deal, where he's slated to make $25.5 million in 2025. Eight WRs in the NFL make over $30 million a year. Of course, McLaurin will want a new deal in that range and could look to sit out practice in order to get it.
He spent his entire six-year career in Washington and likely wants to stay there long term with the emergence of QB Jayden Daniels. While it sounds good in theory, everyone wants to get paid, and McLaurin is no different.
Holding out for a new deal is something that players have done for years, and McLaurin may be heading down that path. It'll be interesting to watch and could be a potential distraction that Quinn will have to deal with.
McLaurin clearly deserves a pay raise, but as of now, nothing seems imminent. He has gone over 1,000 yards in six straight seasons and has outperformed his current deal. Whether or not he lands an extension before the 2025 season is something that Quinn will be monitoring closely.
