Dan Quinn Somehow Screwed the Cowboys Again in Week 12
Even though the 2024 season has been a disaster, Dallas Cowboys fans were starting to come to the understanding that the NFL postseason was out of reach. After all, the Cowboys entered Sunday's tilt against the Washington Commanders with a 3-7 record and it had gotten to the point where the fanbase wasn't going to mind another loss if it meant improving the value of the team's draft picks.
But even though Mike McCarthy & Co. head into Northwest Stadium as underdogs to their NFC East rivals, things didn't go as planned all because of one man: Commanders head coach and former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Commanders' Dan Quinn Screws Cowboys Yet Again
Even though Washington began the day as the 11-point favorite with a 7-3 record, you wouldn't know that based on what happened on the gridiron. The Commanders found multiple ways to self-destruct on Sunday, leading to a 34-26 victory for the Cowboys in a rollercoaster-like game that saw 41 total points scored in the fourth quarter alone.
With the win, America's Team is now projected to hold the 2025 NFL draft's No. 11 selection rather than owning a top-10 pick had they lost to the Commanders. While Jerry Jones' scouts can certainly find a game-changing player with that sort of pick, it's still disappointing to know that Quinn screwed the Cowboys again.
After a failed coaching stint with the Atlanta Falcons, Quinn was brought in to be McCarthy's defensive coordinator ahead of the 2021 season. The former Salisbury product's presence made an immediate impact as the Cowboys ranked seventh or better in terms of points allowed across his three seasons in the Lone Star State.
But while Quinn accomplished a lot of good things in Dallas, he's also been the source of recent headaches.
Dan Quinn vs Cowboys Recent Rivalry
The Cowboys' 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in January's Wild Card matchup was when the fanbase started to lose love for the veteran defensive guru. Any remaining affection all but disappeared when the 54-year-old DC left to join the Commanders as their head coach.
It didn't take long for Quinn to become a pest to his former employer. He tried to lure a handful of Cowboys coaches to the Commanders and even swayed over former secondary coach/passing game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.
Quinn's antics continued at the NFL draft when he wanted the Commanders to trade up for Tyler Guyton, who eventually went to the Cowboys at No. 29. Although nothing is confirmed, there's a good chance that he knew Dallas wanted to target the Oklahoma blocker and wanted to foil those plans.
That's without mentioning the several Cowboys free agents he brought with him to Washington, including Dorance Armstrong and Tyler Biadasz.
Even though the sporting world is often seen as "just business," Quinn has worked hard to ensure that there are personal issues between him and Dallas. We'll see if the ex-DC screws his former team over again when the Cowboys and Commanders collide at AT&T Stadium in Week 18.
