The Dallas Cowboys need their defense to step up if they want to be taken seriously in 2026, and they might have an in-house reinforcement to accomplish that. Early returns have shown that DeMarvion Overshown can be a true difference-maker. He made a big splash right out of the gate in his first fully healthy season, registering 90 total tackles (56 solo) and 5.0 sacks in 2024.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to play much since entering the league. He's already suffered two season-ending injuries in four years, and he was only able to make six appearances last year, logging 28 tackles, including one for loss.
That's why, now that he's fully healthy again, he can't wait to get out in the field and play for Christian Parker. Addressing the media, the talented linebacker gushed about what the new defensive coordinator brings to the table.
DeMarvion Overshown thinks Christian Parker will lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl
"When you see the scheme actually playing out in real life time, you're just knowing that 'okay, this is what's gonna help us win a Super Bowl.' How he explains the calls, how he goes into depth on the reasons why we're doing everything," Overshown said, per The Athletic's Jon Machota."He's quizzing us in the room, making sure we're ready. That's the kind of leadership you need. So I'm very excited about him and (linebackers) coach [Scott] Symons."
Parker might be a former defensive backs coach, but he's there to revamp everything after a disastrous year with Matt Eberflus. Clearly, having health by his side will also be crucial, as guys like Overshown and Shavon Revel could bring a lot to the table.
Also, adding a potentially generational guy like Caleb Downs to the mix, plus a talented pass rusher like Malachi Lawrence, might help Brian Schottenheimer's team leave their defensive woes behind once and for all.
Parker looked like the next in line to take the reins of the Philadelphia Eagles' defense if Vic Fangio retired. And if things go according to plan, he might not be in Arlington for long before he gets a team of his own.
The Cowboys emphasized giving him the weapons and resources he needed to get the defense up to speed with their explosive offense, and it looks like he's already gotten the most important thing for an NFL coach: his players' admiration and respect.
As for Overshown, this will most likely be a make-or-break season for the former third-round pick. More than showing what he can do in the middle of the defense, he has to prove that he can stay healthy. He has the talent to be a defensive quarterback in Arlington, but availability is the best ability, and another injury-riddled campaign might probably seal his fate.
