Desperate Cowboys Give Training Camp Star Surprise Opportunity in Week 10
By Joe Summers
The Cowboys are stuck in a bad situation as perhaps the NFL's most disappointing team this season, and now are turning to an unlikely source desperately hoping to find production.
Undrafted WR Jalen Cropper, who shined in training camp and the preseason, was elevated from the practice squad and will make his NFL debut in Week 10 against the Eagles.
With Dak Prescott done for the season, it's time for the organization to look toward the future. CeeDee Lamb and Jalen Tolbert are fixtures at receiver but Dallas needs to see if anyone else can step up now that Cooper Rush is under center.
Cowboys Elevate WR Jalen Cropper to Active Roster in Week 10
Cropper likely won't see much playing time against the Eagles but his elevation is an encouraging sign for his future. He was a standout at Fresno State, catching 85 passes for 899 yards and 11 TDs in 2021 before hauling in 83 balls for 1,086 yards and five TDs in 2022.
Dallas has a roster full of holes, expensive veterans and underwhelming skill-position players. A good game from Cropper would at least give the coaching staff someone to develop as the Cowboys hope to put this disastrous season behind them.
Jerry Jones has no one to blame but himself for the mess this year has become. He exhausted all of his leverage in negotiations with CeeDee Lamb and Prescott and his refusal to fire head coach Mike McCarthy undermined the year before it even began. Now, he's stuck with egg on his face and disgusted fans.
Maybe Cropper can be a silver lining in this disaster. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the team will still have the same problems next year that it does now. McCarthy likely won't be around, yet the front office still needs to find reliable receivers and upgrades at running back.
It's just a minor move but could become a storyline to watch should Cropper get on the field and continue his strong work from the summer.
