Dallas Stars fans have every right not to be happy, as free agency has not gone too well for the good guys in green. Star defender Zach Werenski was about to go to the Stars, but he vetoed a trade and ended up staying with Columbus. Last but not least, they lost Mavrik Bourque and Alexander Petrovic.

With questions still looming about Jason Robertson's future, the Stars need a home run at some point this offseason, but ESPN's Emily Kaplan is trying to make that dream come true. Kaplan appeared on The PuckPedia Hockey Show to discuss key players this offseason, two future Hall of Famers, and linked them to Dallas.

"If Connor McDavid or Auston Matthews ever decide that they want to leave their markets, Dallas is a team that I'm hearing that would interest those type of guys."

Stars are reportedly interested in Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews

With the Stars trying to break out of playoff exits, this may be what eventually tips the scales to change everything. The Stars are in a championship window, and they have been for the last four seasons, but they don't have time to waste.

Connor McDavid is no doubt one of the greatest NHL players ever. His speed, handling and craft are god-given abilities that few have had throughout NHL history, and the Stars landing him would change the NHL.

Auston Matthews has been one of the best in the NHL during his time and will no doubt be a Hall of Famer one day. His goal-scoring rate is elite, and it's often been compared to "Ovi," Alexander Ovechkin.

The way things are going with Robertson, it may be a sign for Jim Nill to swing for the fences. Robertson's value is around $12 million in AAV, but some reports have indicated he wants around $14 million. The Stars can make that happen, but if they don't, they know where to look.

Bottom-feeder teams have money to spend, but Robertson also declined a blockbuster deal to the Seattle Kraken. This could be a good sign for the Stars that he's looking to stay in Big D, but of course, we have to "see it to believe it."

McDavid and Matthews are one-of-a-kind guys that you swing for if you have a chance. But it looks like Robertson is holding all the cards here. If the Stars sign him, amazing. But if Nill can get his hands on either McDavid or Matthews, it would be the greatest signing in Stars history.
