Over the past two seasons, the Dallas Cowboys have had one of the best kickers in the NFL, Brandon Aubrey. Aubrey was signed out of the USFL in 2023, after making 93.3% of his field goals in 2023. The 30-year-old quickly became known for his big leg in the NFL, going 10-for-10 on field goals of 50+ yards in 2023.

Though Aubrey was less accurate in 2024, he was still effective for the Cowboys. That said, one former Cowboys kicker has recently signed with a team Dallas faces in 2025. According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the New York Jets signed kicker Nick Folk on Tuesday. The Jets and Cowboys face off at MetLife Stadium in Week 5 this year.

Older Cowboys fans will remember when Folk entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2007. The 40-year-old would spend his first three seasons with the Cowboys. During these three seasons, Folk made 79% (64/81) of his field goal attempts and 100% of his extra points.

At the end of his time in Dallas, Folk was erratic, which led to him getting cut on December 21, 2009. Following his time with the Cowboys, the 40-year-old spent seven seasons with the Jets. In that time, he made 83.2% (175/213) of his field goals and 99% of his extra points.

Unfortunately, Folk was a cap casualty for the Jets entering the 2017 season. After departing from New York, he bounced around three different NFL teams and even played a year in the AAF.

Now back with the Jets, Folk will be battling with rookie Harrison Mevis for the starting job. The veteran is coming off the second-best season of his career, so pushing the rookie shouldn't be a challenge for Folk.

If Folk does become the Jets' starting kicker, it will only be the fourth time he is set to face the Cowboys in his career. In his other three games against the team that drafted him, Folk made 66% (4/6) of his field goals and 100% of his extra points.

While it's not at the top of Cowboys fans' minds, monitoring the Jets' kicking situation throughout training camp to see if Folk makes the roster is an interesting storyline.
