Being a starting quarterback is one of the toughest jobs in the world to land and an even tougher one to hold onto, as you are constantly under the microscope.

Dallas Cowboys fans know as well as anyone what one injury at the quarterback position can do to a team's chances of success. Dak Prescott suffering a hamstring injury that ended his 2024 campaign proved as much.

Both of Prescott's primary backups from last season have moved on to new teams, and at least one of them could be regretting that decision big time after Monday's big injury news.

Ex-Cowboys QB Lance Has to Regret FA Choice After Titans Injury News

The Tennessee Titans have a backup QB emergency on their hands after losing Will Levis for the entire season entering camp. The options behind him -- Brandon Allen, Tim Boyle -- have little NFL chops, making this a top landing spot for a backup.

This is the type of opportunity someone like ex-Cowboys QB Trey Lance could've capitalized on if he had waited in free agency. Instead, he's now on his third team in five seasons and not any closer to seeing regular playing time, as he's bound to sit behind Justin Herbert (who's only missed five games total across five seasons) on the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025.

There likely weren't many scenarios where the former Cowboys QB would have held off until now to sign with a new team. Yet, that shouldn't stop him from reconsidering how he approached this offseason, especially since his potential for reps is severely capped in LA.

Cam Ward is the future of the position in Nashville, but he has not been named the starter for the Titans. With Levis now out, Lance would be positioned to challenge the rookie and possibly even keep the seat warm for Ward until he's ready to take over as QB1.

For a player with 12 appearances and five starts under his belt after four years in the NFL, the opportunity to get on the field should be the most important thing for Lance. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the chance to take meaningful snaps was always higher with the Titans than it will be with the Chargers.
