The Dallas Cowboys are set to report for training camp on July 21st. This will officially kick off a new era for the Cowboys, which means there will be competitions happening all over the field.

Several players are eyeing spots on the team, but it will come down to who stands out in practice. The Cowboys made big changes to the RB rotation, adding Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. They then drafted Jaydon Blue in the fifth round, joining Deuce Vaughn.

While Vaughn is going into his third season, the odds of him sticking with the team look pretty low going into training camp.

Deuce Vaughn Is on Thin Ice for the Cowboys

Vaughn was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft, and it was a great story when he heard his father, Chris, make the call to him, letting him know he was getting picked by the Cowboys. He served as a scout for Dallas and was able to give his son some of the biggest news of his life.

While that was a great story, the Kansas State product hasn't been able to be a productive player in the backfield. He's played in 14 games for Dallas, logging 110 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards. Over the last two seasons, Vaughn has played in less than 20% of the offensive and special team snaps.

Since he isn't a consistent member of the backfield, special teams is where he would carve out a role for himself, but he's failed to do that either. The 23-year-old hasn't been able to lock down a spot in the rotation, and the coaching staff that drafted him is no longer in the building.

It looks like Williams and Sanders will share the bulk of the duties on rushing plays, with Blue being a third-down back due to his pass-catching skills.

That would have been the role that Vaughn would likely play, but with a bigger, younger, and more explosive option, Dallas could look to move on from the 2023 sixth-round pick. He's going into the third year of his deal, but the Cowboys would only get him with a $66,000 dead cap hit if they released him.

That's a small amount considering there are better alternatives on the roster.
