Former Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith will continue his professional sporting career in the DFW as an Offensive Line Coaching Advisor for the East-West Shrine Bowl, which will be played at the Ford Center in Frisco. The game's official X account shared the news on Friday.

Smith won't be the only former Cowboy on hand at the annual upperclassmen showcase. Former Dallas fullback Daryl Johnston will be inducted into the East-West Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.

The Cowboys' official team site hyped up Smith's addition, pointing out that this won't be his first time developing talent. As the Past/Present Blog revealed, Smith has helped Klayton Adams develop the team's 2024 first-round pick.

"The East-West Shrine Bowl is one of the bigger pre-draft showcases where dozens of collegiate prospects gather to perform in front of NFL coaches, scouts and executives ahead of the NFL Draft. Now, the offensive tackles will get a chance to learn from one of the best linemen in recent history in Smith, who has already made efforts to help current Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton take the next step in his development over the course of the offseason last year," the blog read.

Guyton, of note, is on thin ice in Dallas due to underperformance protecting the blind side. How much of a hand is TBD, though not looking good. But Smith has a chance of redemption in the East-West Shrine Bowl with incoming NFL players.

What is the East-West Shrine Bowl?

The East-West Shrine Bowl is billed on its official website as the "premier college football all-star game where today's stars become tomorrow's legends at the next level." Truth be told, that's a misleading label.

The true premier college football all-star game is the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. In fact, the East-West Shrine Bowl was largely under the radar compared to its counterpart until several Colorado Buffaloes players, chief among them Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, were invited to the game. Sanders and Hunter both skipped the actual game, while the former was a strong presence in the media build-up.

To be fair to the East-West Shrine Bowl, the game's organizers are clearly trying to close the gap with the Senior Bowl with an addition like Smith to promote it.

We'll see if Smith can fair better at the event than with Guyton.
