Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci has hit yet another roadblock in his career after being released by the Atlanta Falcons. It was always an extremely long shot that the quarterback could make the team, with Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins both cemented into their respective roles. Easton Stick had the advantage of being in camp longer as well, even if Atlanta's active roster was going to carry a third quarterback on the active roster.

Still, it is easy to feel sorry for the veteran as his search for a landing spot continues. DiNucci started his career in Dallas after being selected in the draft's final round ahead of the 2020 season. The signal caller managed to stick around until 2022 before being jettisoned. This set up what was a solid XFL debut with the Seattle Sea Dragons before the backup attempted an NFL comeback.

DiNucci spent time with the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and New Orleans Saints. Each of the trio of stops was short-lived due to injury insurance. For DiNucci, it seemed that a career as a backup was still on the table. However, the latest release does serve as a reminder of how difficult it has become, even as teams are allowed to carry three quarterbacks on game day.

Former Cowboys Quarterback Ben DiNucci Announces His Own Release

One of the more interesting wrinkles of DiNucci's release this time around is the fact that the quarterback announced it himself. The former Cowboy tweeted out a photo of his airport beer, pointing out that this was his 7th time being cut from an NFL roster. While this is understandable frustration, it is still important to keep things in perspective. DiNucci was given two years to carve out a role as a backup for a prestige franchise.

Even after failing to do this, there were still four more chances to make an NFL roster, as well as an impressive stint starting in the XFL. While feeling sorry for yourself in such a situation is relatable, a bit of perspective remains important.

DiNucci's experience will still likely earn him another chance on a practice squad or as a third option when an injury presents an opportunity. While the former Dallas backup is clearly on his way out of the league, it seems unlikely that the veteran is going to call it a career just yet.
