All across the country, training camps around the NFL have been in full swing. The Dallas Cowboys have dealt with multiple injuries already, but are looking to adapt and see what the other guys on the team can do.

Meanwhile, former Cowboys are looking to make an impact with their respective clubs, and an ex-QB was gifted a massive chance to kick off the summer. According to Alex Insdorf, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Trey Lance will be the starting QB in the Hall of Fame game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.

Former Cowboys QB Trey Lance Set to Start With New Team on Thursday

Earlier this offseason, he signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Chargers and was brought in to compete for the QB3 role. Justin Herbert is the clear starter, and Taylor Heinicke is the backup. Lance and DJ Uiagalelei were the only other options, and the former 3rd overall pick has given the first shot.

It has been a rough four-year NFL career for Lance. Despite being a top 3 pick, things never took off for him in San Francisco or Dallas. In 12 NFL games (five starts), Lance tossed 1,063 yards, five passing touchdowns, and four interceptions. During his lone start with the Cowboys, Lance went 25-of-41 for 266 passing yards and one pick.

Although his numbers aren't impressive, he has the physical traits that teams are willing to take a flyer on. He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 226 pounds. Lance owns a strong arm and has the athleticism to make plays with his legs if needed.

While he still needs to improve on many other elements in his game, he will get a chance to put it on display in this outing.

The Chargers plan to rest the majority of their veteran starters against Detroit, so Lance will have to show out with the second and third-string guys. Since everyone is fighting for their spot and Los Angeles is getting an extra preseason game, everyone should be putting their best foot forward.

When speaking to the media, Harbaugh said, “I want to get Trey Lance game experience", via Fernando Ramirez of TheSportingTribune.com. The plan is for Lance to play the first half, as Uiagalelei is slated to replace him after a drive in the third.

This can put him in a great position going into August if he plays well and shows some improvement from his days with the Cowboys and 49ers.
