If there is one position Dallas Cowboys fans are excited about, it is the team's new receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Adding the former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver has given new life to hopes that the window for contention with Dak Prescott isn't closed just yet. The veteran quarterback has arguably the most talented duo in the league and every reason to believe this offense can take a step forward. One notable loss, however, is veteran receiver Brandin Cooks, who joined the New Orleans Saints this offseason.

It makes sense for Cooks in the fact it is the organization that started an impressive career. This is the only piece of the signing that makes any level of sense, as the rest of the fit sets the veteran up for failure.

Both the Saints and Cooks are going to watch this move end in frustration. The receiver is at the stage of his career where things are slipping in the wrong direction, and the right offensive fit and elite quarterback are needed to prevent continued regression.

Former Cowboys Receiver Brandin Cooks Poised For 2025 Frustration

The Saints quarterback situation is the biggest piece of the puzzle in why Cooks isn't going to work in New Orleans. Already, you have Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave, who are far more deserving of getting touches. Add in the fact that it will be Tyler Shough attempting to distribute the football, and it is easy to see why this move is destined for failure.

Cooks is a good receiver and even in the late stages of his career can be a productive secondary option. However, we just watched what the veteran is capable of when a backup quarterback is forced into action. Dallas didn't hesitate to upgrade even with the pending return of Prescott to the starting lineup.

For Dallas, it further proves the team made the right decision with Cooks forced to settle for signing in such a bad situation, while the Cowboys added another star to the position. It won't take long with New Orleans' current options at quarterback to regret the move and again face the difficult reality that a rebuild is long overdue.
