With the 2026 NFL Draft in the books and no clear path to another team in sight, this might be the end of the line for Trevon Diggs, at least as a starter. Things have gone south for the former Dallas Cowboys star for a while now.
Diggs outstayed his welcome in Arlington last season, and even though the Green Bay Packers gave him a lifeline, his performance wasn't enough to prove that he can still be a difference-maker. His phone has gone silent, and he might need an injury or a desperate team to get a new deal at this point.
There's Little to No Interest in Trevon Diggs
Years ago, Diggs was one of the league's budding stars. He was the true definition of a ball hawk, and while he got burned for big plays from time to time, his ability to flip the field with his interceptions was second to none among cornerbacks.
Then, injuries happened. Diggs lost a step and never recovered his timing to anticipate routes and throws. Also, with former defensive backs coach Al Harris no longer in the building, he regressed drastically in his turnover-creating prowess.
All that was left was his inconsistency in coverage. He could be a shutdown guy for a couple of plays, then give up 20 yards and a touchdown in the following drive. There will always be ebbs and flows with a cornerback's job, but with DaRon Bland surging, Diggs became a target and a weak link in the Cowboys' shaky secondary.
To add insult to injury, Diggs' character didn't do him any favors. He ran his mouth a bit too much and a bit too often, and he didn't seem to see eye to eye with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus last season. The Cowboys didn't like that power struggle, and even though Eberflus was obviously on the hot seat himself, Dallas decided Diggs just wasn't worth the trouble anymore.
Diggs' big contract and bad stretch injury luck made him a negative trade asset last season. But now that he's a free agent, it doesn't seem like teams are lining up to give him another chance. The Packers needed plenty of help at cornerback and were already familiar with him, but they have seemingly moved on by signing Benjamin St-Juste and drafting Brandon Cisse.
The former All-Pro is still young, and injuries happen, so there's a chance that he will get another shot at some point in 2026. That said, he needs to humble himself and realize that he hasn't been "the man" in quite a while now if he wants to have a place in the league.
