The story of the Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been the exciting addition of star receiver George Pickens. With the hope being that Pickens will fully unlock the potential of this offense, pushing it back into elite status. It isn't impossible when you consider the return of Dak Prescott and the talent of CeeDee Lamb.

However, if there is one remaining concern, it is the lack of proven depth behind the stars. The Cowboys could benefit from adding an additional depth piece or two. Not star players or top contributors, but pieces that can be relied on to help Lamb and Pickens carry the team as expected.

One former Dallas depth piece has a chance to find a new landing spot in Seth Williams.

The receiver was first drafted by the Denver Broncos before spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cowboys. Williams had a short stop in Dallas as a member of the practice squad. When this ended, the receiver opted to continue his career with the DC Defenders in the UFL. However, another surprise NFL opportunity has presented itself with Williams having a tryout this week with a top AFC contender.

Former Cowboys Receiver Seth Williams Handed Surprise Opportunity

For Williams, it is going to be an uphill battle to find a way to earn a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs roster. The tryout is an exciting chance, but the Chiefs are surprisingly stacked at the position. With the return of Rashee Rice, the Chiefs already have more than enough depth pieces and will have to make difficult decisions throughout the 2025 preseason.

Still, it is a chance for Williams to continue to keep his name relevant and perhaps earn a surprise chance in camp with a top contender. For Dallas, there really isn't a fit here, even with the clear need for depth upgrades. There is a reason why the team turned the page, and returning to Williams makes little sense.

Depth and practice squad spots are better utilized for players who haven't had the opportunity Dallas handed Williams. With that said, there is no ill will towards the former Cowboy who now has a surprise chance to breathe life back into a struggling career.
