Through the first few days of NFL free agency, the Dallas Cowboys saw countless veterans leave the team and sign deals elsewhere, including DeMarcus Lawrence. The 32-year-old defensive end signed a three-year deal worth up to $42 million with the Seattle Seahawks.
Lawrence spent 11 years with the Cowboys after being drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The veteran defensive lineman established himself as one of the team’s stalwarts on defense for many years, making him a fan favorite.
The veteran defender likely wishes his Dallas tenure ended on a better note as he only played in four games last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
That said, the former Cowboys star is looking forward to his new beginnings with the Seahawks, but had one more thing to say about Dallas, which won’t make the fanbase too happy.
In an interview with Brian Nemhauser of Hawkblogger.com at the Seahawks’ facilities, Lawrence was asked about the difference between Seattle and Dallas and threw shade at the Cowboys’ Super Bowl outlook.
"The main difference as you can see is it's cold, Lawrence said (h/t Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report). "Gotta keep my jacket up here. Definitely love the atmosphere. Change of scenery is always good. Dallas is my home. I made my home there. My family lives there. I'm forever gonna be there. I know for sure I'm not gonna win a Super Bowl there, so...yea, we here."
Lawrence was doing fine, giving love to the city where he’s spent his entire professional career, but as you can imagine Cowboys fans won’t like that last statement.
Over his 11-year tenure in Dallas, Lawrence played nine playoff games, none of which were in the NFC title game or the Super Bowl. The last time the Cowboys were in the Super Bowl was in the 90s when Troy Aikman was still at quarterback.
When Lawrence was in Dallas, there were some Cowboys teams that fans thought could make a Super Bowl or NFC title game run, but it never happened. Nonetheless, the veteran defensive end will try to achieve that goal of winning a Super Bowl in Seattle, but it won’t be easy as the Seahawks are in the middle of retooling their offense.
