Ian Rapoport's update on Aaron Donald will leave Cowboys fans feeling dejected

Well, that's just great.

The Los Angeles Rams have entered the chat this offseason, and they aren't playing around. With one of the NFL's best already joining L.A. for next season, it appears one of the Rams' old friends has a "real possibility" of coming back to football, per Ian Rapoport. That's future Hall of Fame defensive lineman, Aaron Donald.

The Dallas Cowboys already missed out on two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, and that was another one missed in the Jerry Jones "busting the budget" jar. The Cowboys and their fans seem happy with their first-rounders, but there was a real case for Jones to jump on one of the league's premier pass rushers, especially Garrett, who's a Texan himself.

But the Garrett trade did more harm than good for the entire NFC and even the entire league. With one of the best to ever suit up on the defensive line already in Los Angeles, with high Super Bowl hopes, it could mean Donald coming back to line up right next to Garrett.

Aaron Donald possibly returning to the Rams isn't good news for the Cowboys

As for the Cowboys OL, they were ranked in the middle of the pack, but Garrett's return alone could mean a nightmare day for Tyler Guyton and even Terence Steele. Now, we're not just talking about a Week 15 game with playoff hopes on the line, potentially. Donald coming back would mean the Rams could run the NFC like it's nothing.

If Donald comes back and lines up next to Garrett, the Cowboys and even other elite offensive lines around the league, forget about it. Not to mention, the Rams still have their young big man up front. Braden Fiske racked up 8.5 sacks in his rookie season, but had a bit of a down year in 2025.

Donald retired at the end of the 2023 season at age 32. He's now 35. He felt he accomplished a lot in his career, and he has. He's a Super Bowl champion, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and an eight-time All-Pro First Team player. Not to mention, he's one of the most powerful specimens to go up against with his explosive first step and relentless motor.

Now, there's a chance of him teaming up with a fellow two-time DPOY winner and an MVP quarterback on the other side? Oh, no way.

Just as the Cowboys were starting to repair the woes of their own defense, it seems offensive lines will be the ones with more of a load on their hands. They won't be the only team affected, so they don't have to feel too bad, but it's still irritating to see an NFC foe run the league.

If Donald coming back is a real possibility, the rest of the NFL should brace for impact, and it will mean another team in the way of the Cowboys' hopes of an NFC Championship game.
