Jerry Jones Already Thinking About Playoffs for Cowboys After Recent Wins
By Jovan Alford
After ripping off two straight wins over the Washington Commanders and New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys have given themselves a small chance to make the playoffs, but they still have a lot of work to do.
The Cowboys are 5-7 and two games in the loss column behind the Commanders (8-5), who own the seventh seed in the NFC. Heading into Week 14, Dallas has a three percent chance of landing the seventh spot and a 97 percent chance of missing the playoffs.
The odds are not in Dallas’ favor but don’t tell Cowboys owner Jerry Jones that. The Cowboys owner briefly mentioned a possible playoff berth in a radio appearance on Tuesday but kept the attention on the team’s upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
“Should the outlandish odds work in our favor about a postseason [berth], so be it, " Jones said on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Josh Tolentino of LoneStarLive.com). “But the main thing is I’m anxious to see us get on the field vs. Cincinnati.”
For the Cowboys to make the playoffs, they need many things to happen in front of them. But they must first take care of their own business, starting with Monday night’s game against the Bengals.
The Bengals saw their playoff hopes dashed last week in a high-scoring loss at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cincinnati is now 4-8, which is one game worse than the Cowboys and they haven’t had as many injuries as Dallas.
The Cowboys have shown some life over the last two weeks, given that they were in the midst of a five-game losing streak that started with a 47-9 loss at home to the Detroit Lions. Dallas is a 5.5-point home underdog against the Bengals on DraftKings Sportsbook as the Cowboys have struggled to play well at AT&T Stadium this season.
