The Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the NFL through the first four weeks of the season. Although many Cowboys fans expected the defense to struggle after trading away Micah Parsons, no one expected them to play this badly. Dallas has failed to show an ability to rush the passer and cover the opposing receivers.

During his weekly Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones spoke about the potential of the Cowboys adding players on defense.

"That's a logical way to go," Jones said. "But I also get to have the benefit of looking at who's coming. We've got (DeMarvion) Overshown coming."

He added, "Frankly, (Donovan Ezeiruaku) is playing lights out and getting better by the game. And (Jadeveon) Clowney has certainly had his opening game. So I see help on the way for this defense."

Jerry Jones Shuts Down the Possibility of Adding Players on Defense

Jones's comments are sentiments shared by many general managers and owners. The people at the top of an organization typically believe in the players they brought in. Even so, everyone Jones mentions is a member of the Cowboys' front seven.

Although Dallas has lacked any pass rush, that isn't the only problem. Its secondary has been a huge liability. In four games, they have allowed teams to average 297.3 passing yards per game (32nd in the NFL).

Sure, an improved pass rush can certainly help with a struggling secondary. However, no matter how much the pass rush improves, it's not going to fix the coverage issues.

Cowboys safeties have been getting burned all season on deep balls. Currently, Dallas is also ranked 32nd in opponent yards per pass attempt, allowing 8.8 yards. The opposition understands the weakness, and that's where they attack.

Former All-Pro CB Trevon Diggs was already benched by the Cowboys. DaRon Bland has taken a step back. The Cowboys defensive backfield are more ball hawks than cover corners. That's what's leading to the big plays against them.

Nevertheless, fans and media will keep pushing Jones and the Cowboys to make a key addition on defense before the trade deadline. It isn't likely for multiple reasons, including their current record. But if you're holding out hope for a big move in the secondary, just read to what Jones above again and you'll know it's not happening.
