Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones never has met a camera he didn't love. Whether it is weekly radio spots or finding time to make questionable offseason comments Jones will always have his screentime. This was the case during Cowboys rookie minicamp with Jones taking time to speak to this year's class and perhaps leaking a bit of news in the process.
Jones speaks on preparation, quickly referencing the New York Giants as the first test for the rookies. This leads to the obvious question of does Jerry Jones already know who the Cowboys play in Week 1? It would be unquestionably on brand for the owner to have released the information days ahead of the league's heralded schedule release. It is the type of decision only Jerry Jones would make.
Jerry Jones May Have Revealed Cowboys Will Play Giants in Week 1
With this in mind, it would be an ideal start for the Cowboys as they attempt to turn the page from a frustrating 2024 season. Dak Prescott is expected to return, and the Cowboys have the exciting new addition of George Pickens. Starting out with this new offense against the Giants gives the franchise more room to ease into the season.
New York remains the little brother of a loaded NFC East, unable to get out of its own way. New York has moved on from quarterback Daniel Jones and will now turn to either aging veteran Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, or rookie Jaxson Dart.
With New York's offensive line and lack of proven weapons, it isn't a concerning matchup for the Cowboys. It should be a win to start the season and send a warning to the Commanders and Eagles that Dallas isn't dead quite yet.
For Jones, this is yet another potential slip for an owner who continues to take more control. Whether it is hiring an assistant coach for what appeared to be maintaining a heavier level of control, or opting to continually speak in the media, Jones cannot stay out of his own way.
At least this time, Cowboys fans perhaps benefit from the slip, giving the fan base an inside look at what could be the team's Week 1 matchup.
