The Dallas Cowboys have the New York Giants coming into town for an NFC East battle in Week 2. Despite looking ahead, the Cowboys' owner-general manager is still speaking about the Micah Parsons trade.
Jerry Jones was a guest on the 880 AM ESPN New York radio show hosted by Gary Myers and revealed that he called the New York Jets to see if they had interest in trading for Parsons. The eccentric billionaire asked for defensive Quinnen Williams and picks in return for Parsons, but the Jets responded by saying they "didn't have the resources" to make the trade for Parsons.
And since Dallas couldn't get Williams, they pivoted over to Kenny Clark instead.
Cowboys Asked Jets About Quinnen Williams in Trade for Micah Parsons
Getting a player like Williams would have been an excellent acquisition for the Cowboys. The Alabama product is a three-time Pro Bowler and First-team All-Pro. He's one of the top three DTs in the game, as he rushes the passer and shuts down the run as well.
In seven seasons with the Jets, he has compiled 295 total tackles, 54 tackles for loss, 101 quarterback hits, 14 pass deflections, and 40 sacks. Dallas' defensive line coach, Aaron Whitecotton, coached Williams for multiple seasons with the Jets, so you know he was putting in a good word about his former player.
While that didn't cross the finish line, Dallas was definitely looking to bolster the interior of their defensive line in exchange for Parsons.
It makes sense why New York didn't make the move for Parsons. This past August, they extended both Garrett Wilson (four years, $130 million) and Sauce Gardner (four years, $120 million). They weren't going to hand out another massive extension to Parsons while giving up multiple first-round picks. Especially since they don't know if Justin Fields will be their QB of the future yet.
Nonetheless, Jones and the Cowboys need to close this chapter on Parsons. They made the decision to move on from him, and now it's time to stop bringing him up. He isn't worried about America's Team anymore and is focused on the Packers.
Jones should do the same and pivot to the guys on the team. Revealing this info doesn't change anything that happened. The only thing that matters going forward is how the Cowboys secure wins on gamedays. And that starts on Sunday versus the Giants, and they'll have to do so without DaRon Bland.
