If there is one area the Dallas Cowboys should continue to address on the heels of this year's draft class, it is the pass rush. The franchise is still attempting to rebuild the unit nearly a year after moving on from Micah Parsons. The current offseason upgrades have been bringing in veteran Rashan Gary and drafting edge rusher Malachi Lawrence. Still, in a league increasingly moving to pass rush by committee, the Cowboys should consider adding further options in free agency.
None is a clearer fit than Joey Bosa, who presents as the perfect buy-low option. The current free agent spent last season with the Buffalo Bills and offered 5.0 sacks. This is the same number that Bosa produced with the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2024 season. However, there are a trio of seasons in Bosa's career where the edge rusher offered double-digit sacks.
Dallas would be buying low on a player with a floor of five sacks, with the hopes of getting more out of the veteran. There simply isn't a downside to the signing, and it is within the limited budget of the Cowboys as the team continues to rebuild the defense.
Already, fans are excited after a strong draft class brought in Lawrence and Caleb Downs to greatly bolster the team's depth. Signing Bosa feels like the perfect bookend to an offseason full of defensive upgrades. It is at least worth exploring and would give Bosa the chance to play for one of the league's premier franchises.
Cowboys Must Explore Signing Free Agent Joey Bosa on Heels of 2026 Draft Class
According to Spotrac, Bosa has a free agency value of $13.7 million, with this number seeming a bit high at this stage of free agency. The pass rusher remaining on the market suggests an inability to find a deal of this value. This creates an opportunity for the Cowboys to offer a far lower deal built around incentives and the chance for Bosa to cash in the following season.
Considering the state of the league, it only takes one great season for a pass rusher to become a hot commodity and earn a huge free agency payday. Dallas offers the advantage of giving Bosa this opportunity while playing for a team consistently on national broadcasts and with a defense that is a nice mix of fresh talent, while still having a clear opportunity for Bosa to earn snaps.
With all of this in mind, it is a fit the franchise should be actively exploring as one of the final moves of the offseason. As we continue to near training camp, it would be great to see one last defensive addition that gives fans even further reason for excitement after a busy 2026 offseason.
