Just-Released Cowboy Already Planning to Reunite With Former Team
By Jovan Alford
On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys made a flurry of roster moves, including trading for young wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers.
Cowboys fans weren’t pleased with that trade, given what they gave up and the other receivers, who were available at the deadline. In addition to the Mingo trade, Dallas made two changes to its active roster.
The Cowboys released cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. and defensive lineman Jordan Phillips, who were acquired via trade during the preseason. While fans weren’t shocked to see the team let go of Booth, they were surprised to see Phillips released.
The Cowboys acquired Phillips from the New York Giants after he signed a one-year contract with the Giants in the offseason.
Dallas expected Phillips to make an impact on the defensive line, but he only appeared in two games after suffering a wrist injury. Phillips was ultimately placed on injured reserve on Sept. 18.
After the news of his release from Dallas, Phillips took to social media and posted a picture of him in a Bills jersey with the caption, “Run it back.”
The 32-year-old defender spent parts of four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. In his four-year stint with the Bills, Phillips had 85 combined tackles, 27 quarterback hits, 20 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks.
Last season with the Bills, the veteran defensive lineman recorded 15 combined tackles, five QB hits, pass deflections, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss in 14 games (nine starts). He also played 44 percent of defensive snaps on the Bills’ defensive line.
