For years, the Philadelphia Eagles have had one of the most stacked teams in the league. However, as much as they may hold bragging rights over everybody else, the Dallas Cowboys have been a thorn in their side, even when they haven't been as competitive.
Jalen Hurts is 5-4 against the Cowboys, and he's gone just 1-4 in Arlington. That's why, unlike most Eagles fans, Cowboys fans would actually love to watch him stay in the NFC East for years to come; he's never posed much of a threat.
However, there might be an even sweeter scenario for Cowboys fans and the Eagles, and it may happen soon. According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the word around the league is that the Eagles could make an aggressive push for Brendan Sorsby.
Cowboys fans should root for Brendan Sorsby in Philadelphia
“I think Howie grabs him in the second round,” one GM told La Canfora. “He’s getting a one for (receiver A.J.) Brown. I don’t think he’s scared to do it, and the stuff you hear about them being willing to move off of Hurts, that's real.”
So, if the Cowboys have had success against Hurts, why should the fans root for his replacement? Simple: Pure chaos. Hurts has a big ego, and with all the incendiary reports coming out of Philadelphia this offseason, plus Nick Sirianni's history of leading a dysfunctional locker room, this might be just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Hurts doesn't seem to be popular in the locker room. He's quite an average quarterback who can't see the middle of the field, and the only reason he's still the undisputed starter is that they jumped the gun to pay him. This rumor just proves what everybody already knew: They're not entirely sold on him.
By adding Sorsby, the Eagles would be wasting prime draft capital on a player who may not even be eligible to suit up for a year. However, the mere fact that they went after him would be more than enough for Hurts to either force his way out of Philadelphia or for all hell to break loose within the organization.
Then the Eagles would turn to an unproven rookie who had been forced to redshirt an entire season and had well-documented off-field issues. He's a major question mark, and as talented as he may be, he simply might not be worth the risk.
The Eagles are stacked with talent on both sides of the field, but all teams have a window, and theirs might be closing. A.J. Brown has already fled the ship, and with Saquon Barkley coming off a down year and Lane Johnson likely on his last leg, this team might not be a contender for much longer. So, if they want to speed things up and just implode before things take their natural course, so be it.
