The Dallas Cowboys have been known to have big stars during the history of their franchise. Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith were front and center when the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 1990s and Tony Romo, Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant were the main attractions over the past two decades.

While Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb hold part of that mantle today, Micah Parsons has arguably become the face of the franchise. A two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler during his time in Dallas, it hasn’t taken long for Parsons to be engrained in the rich history of the Cowboys and his latest comments hinted that he doesn’t plan for that to change even as he seeks a new contract.

Micah Parsons Hints at Long Future with Cowboys After Luka Doncic Trade

Parsons was making his rounds on media row at the Super Bowl this week when he was asked about the trade of another Dallas-area star Luka Doncic. While the two weren’t teammates, Parsons admitted he was shaken up by the news and said he thought they could be the two faces of the area for a long time.

“I’m devastated,” Parsons said via Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. “Honestly, bro, we was the same age. I felt like I would say he was getting the city spot. We could have done great things together.”

Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers late on Saturday night but had a big presence in the Dallas area. The third overall pick in the 2018 NBA debuted as a 19-year-old with the Dallas Mavericks and played over six seasons while leading them to the NBA Finals last summer.

Parsons arrived one year after Doncic’s debut and had the same effect on the local sports scene. The Penn State product won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2019 and the Cowboys won 12 games in three straight seasons before going 7-10 this year.

While the Mavericks weren’t willing to give Doncic a Supermax contract worth over $350 million this summer, the Cowboys probably don’t have the same issue. Spotrac estimates Parsons could command a contract with an average salary in excess of $30 million as he enters the final year of his rookie deal and he could push to top Nick Bosa as the highest-paid defensive player in the league after the San Francisco 49ers star signed a five-year, $170 million contract with $88 million guaranteed in 2023.

The Cowboys have some cap issues they’ll need to figure out – especially if they want to add around Parsons. But it appears Parsons has full intent in staying in Dallas and expanding his legacy as the Cowboys push for another title.
