The Cowboys' season is over with three games remaining, and now star defender Micah Parsons has suddenly appeared on Dallas' Friday injury report prior to a Sunday Night Football showdown with the Buccaneers.

Parsons has been limited to 10 games entering Week 16 but is still one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said that he expects Parsons to play, though it's never a good sign for a player to suddenly appear on a Friday report.

After not participating in the final practice, Parsons' status could potentially be in doubt entering the Week 16 contest.

Cowboys Star Micah Parsons Suddenly Questionable for Sunday Night Football

Frankly, it'd behoove the Cowboys if Parsons doesn't suit up. Dallas has nothing to play for aside from draft position at this point, so his presence would actually hurt the franchise's long-term outlook.

Jerry Jones' shortcomings were made obvious this season. He failed to address any of the clear issues on the roster and once injuries struck, the Cowboys had nowhere to turn. Parsons was among the early injuries that derailed a once-promising campaign, though this ailment could be a blessing in disguise.

Hilariously, Dallas shot itself in the foot by winning three of the last four games. What once was a top-10 draft pick now sits at 14. With games against the Buccaneers, Eagles, and Commanders remaining, all fans should hope the Cowboys lose out. There is no honor in finishing one or two games out of the playoffs, despite what Jones and Mike McCarthy might insist on.

Parsons' ailment gives this organization an opportunity, one they're unlikely to take advantage of. Once you're eliminated from contention, what's the point in trying to win in the short term if it sacrifices long-term growth?

That's something the Cowboys have never understood. Parsons will almost certainly play, but it's to the team's detriment.
