It hasn't been a good six weeks of the season for the Dallas Cowboys. They are sitting at 3-3 with an NFC showdown against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

The Cowboys are coming off a much-needed bye week but have received constant backlash from all over. Even former players have called out Dallas and former quarterback Troy Aikman was one of them last week.

He publicly bashed the Cowboys' receivers and CeeDee Lamb, saying their routes were terrible. Now that a few days have passed, head coach Mike McCarthy defended Lamb with his latest statements at Monday's press conference.

Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Doesn’t Agree With Troy Aikman

McCarthy defended his guys by saying he's been watching them consistently at practice and on film. But he also clapped back at Aikman in the same breath.

"For me to address to those comments, I don’t because they don’t carry any weight with me because I watch all the tape. I get to go to the meetings. I’m at practice. I’m part of the games. Troy’s statement, in particular, I don’t agree with the word selection. But there is definitely need for improvement in every position, not just one position that he commented on. So, I think you look at the whole picture. You break it down and that’s what coaches do. There’s a process to it. There’s always a plan. These guys bring great energy. Their work ethic is high."

That is the kind of approach you would expect from the head coach. The Cowboys do need more from Lamb but it's not only him. The entire team needs to elevate their play and hopefully, the bye week gave them a refresh.

Although Lamb hasn't gone over 100 yards in any contest this season, he's still 10th in the NFL in receiving yards (467) with 32 receptions and two touchdowns. McCarthy has complete faith in his star WR and defended him against the Dallas legend.
