After getting crushed in back-to-back weeks at home by the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans, the Dallas Cowboys will take their talents on the road this week to play the Washington Commanders.

It will be the first time this season that head coach Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys will face their former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Quinn left in the offseason to become the head coach in Washington.

When Quinn became the head coach, he brought multiple Cowboys players to Washington, including Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong. Given the Cowboys’ injuries on the defensive line, they could have used both guys this season.

On Thursday, McCarthy gave high praise to Fowler and Armstrong, who have recorded 11.5 combined sacks.

"That’s how this game works. The financial component, it changes your team every year," the Cowboys head coach said (h/t ESPN’s Todd Archer). "I’m happy that they got a great opportunity, and I hope they play like s*** Sunday."

The Cowboys saw Armstrong cash in on a three-year, $33 million deal in free agency, while Fowler got a one-year, $3.25 million contract. Fowler leads the team in sacks (8.5) and sets himself up for a nice payday next offseason.

Between the two defenders, the Cowboys could’ve re-signed Fowler but didn’t want to spend the cap space to do it. Knowing Dallas’ luck this season, Fowler and Armstrong will have monster games against the Cowboys’ offensive line.

The Cowboys will try to avoid that scenario by running the football with Rico Dowdle and quickly getting the ball out of Cooper Rush’s hands.
