The Dallas Cowboys suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Monday night, falling 34-10 to the Houston Texans. For the second straight week, the Cowboys have allowed 34 points. They’ve also not won a game at home this season.

This has been a season to forget for the Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy, who came into this season as a lame-duck head coach, stuck with Cooper Rush at QB for the second consecutive week.

Rush played better against the Texans than he did against the Eagles, completing 32-of-55 (58.2%) passes for 354 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The veteran QB was also sacked five times in the loss.

Despite Rush dropping back 55 times, the Cowboys only scored one touchdown, which came at the beginning of the second quarter. Rush connected with wide receiver KaVontae Turpin for a 64-yard touchdown catch.

However, that was one of the few explosive plays the Cowboys’ offense manufactured against Houston’s defense.

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, McCarthy told reporters after the loss that the team was frustrated and he wanted to play Trey Lance late in the game.

As you can imagine, Dallas fans immediately mentioned owner Jerry Jones pulling the strings on the team’s starting QB. Jones said after the game himself that he believes Rush gives them the best chance of winning, so we likely won’t see Lance soon.

With the Cowboys on the verge of locking up a top-10 pick in the draft, it would be best for them to see what they have in Lance, who will be an impending free agent at the end of the year.

We know what Rush is at this stage of his career, we don’t know what type of player Lance is. But with Jones meddling and throwing his two cents in about the QB position,  McCarthy is put in a weird position as he’s coaching for his job.
