The Dallas Cowboys have undergone an offseason of change after missing the playoffs in 2024. They named Brian Schottenheimer as the head coach while using free agency, the NFL draft, and the trade market as areas to add talent to the roster.
In early April, the Cowboys traded a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for Joe Milton III and a 2025 seventh-round pick. That move caught fans by surprise, but it was an intriguing addition considering the traits he has and Dak Prescott's injury history.
Now that time has settled on the deal, some details have emerged, and they don't put Milton III in the best light. Greg A. Bedard revealed on an appearance of Patriots Press Pass that Milton III was described by someone in the Patriots organization as "not a good dude."
Bedard also stated, "Knowing your role, playing your role, being part of a harmonious quarterback room — that was going to be an issue. It wasn’t about Drake Maye. It was just about the room.”
Rumors arose that there was tension inside the Pats' quarterback room between Drake Maye and Milton III. Maye and his family were reportedly upset that New England took Milton III in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft, in addition to him starting the Week 18 season finale.
Maye didn't like that Milton III was looking over his shoulder and eyeing the starting job. Only one source called Milton III a "bad dude," so we should take that statement with a grain of salt.
Of course, Milton III was pushing to start, just as any player would. He entered the league with one of the strongest arms in the league, with the ability to make plays with his legs. In his lone start last season, Milton III went 22-of-29 (75.9%) for 241 passing yards and one touchdown.
Multiple teams were in pursuit of Milton III, and the Cowboys were the winners. This report about the 25-year-old is something to keep an eye but since he's in a new location, he's looking to start fresh, and there's no shot he starts unless Prescott is sidelined with an injury. And Milton III knows that.
