The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2025 season with plenty to prove after injury issues to key players led them to a third-place finish in the NFC East this past year.
Heading into the draft, the wide receiver position was considered to be an area of need for Dallas, as there was not much behind CeeDee Lamb in terms of proven talent. Well, things can change rather quickly during the offseason, and that area of need is now looking like one of the strongest units on the roster.
With expectations raised and new faces brought into the fold, the Cowboys have hit the field for minicamp, and the early returns are positive, especially those concerning one veteran addition.
New Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens is Already the Star of Minicamp
Dallas is banking on George Pickens to be the answer to its problems on the outside, as, on paper, the idea of him teaming up with Lamb was a perfect fit. While we still have a ways to go before this trade can be deemed a success or failure, the performance Pickens has put on since joining the Cowboys has been impressive, with, quite possibly, his best showing yet coming on Tuesday.

“Nobody could guard George Pickens today. Beat Israel Mukuamu on a nasty comeback route and had a couple more catches on the day too,” Tommy Yarrish said. pic.twitter.com/zWspGJRmVR
Despite only being teammates for a short period, the former second-round draft pick out of the University of Georgia has already shown a strong connection on the field with star quarterback Dak Prescott. That connection should only continue to strengthen as we move deeper into the season and opposing defenses get a firsthand look at how difficult it is to contain a pair of receivers as skilled as Pickens and Lamb.
This past season, Pickens was considered to be among the top third of eligible wide receivers in the league, per Pro Football Focus' grading system. Given he was able to perform at that level when, arguably, the only receiving threat on the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster this past season, it is exciting for Cowboys fans to dream about what he can accomplish with far less attention placed squarely on him by opposing defenses.
