There are plenty of responsibilities as an NFL quarterback. It comes under even more scrutiny as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. Every move can be criticized. That's what Dak Prescott has to continue to navigate heading into his 11th season as the starting quarterback for America's team.

The media loves to discuss the Cowboys. That's well known. There isn't an NFL team that constantly gets more attention than the Cowboys, and that also shifts to the players. Prescott always gets a spotlight, and he looks to have a great relationship with the working media around the team.

Even when he receives negative coverage, Prescott remains professional during interviews. That was confirmed this week as Prescott was named the 2026 "The Good Guy" award winner. It's given annually by the Pro Football Writers Association of America (PFWA) to a player who significantly helps the working NFL media do their jobs.

Cowboys' QB Dak Prescott wins the 2026 "Good Guy Award"

This is history for the Cowboys, as he is the first player from the organization to win the award. Jason Witten was the only other player named a finalist for it four different seasons. This was actually Prescott's second nomination, with the first being in 2024.

What does that entail? Well, being consistently available for media availabilities and interview sessions, as well as being professional and helpful when asked questions or requests. The busy excuse is thrown around for popular players, and Prescott is more than willing to take time out of his day to provide honest answers.

Prescott has been known to be a great leader over the years. Yes, it's what's required for the position, but Prescott in particular has been quite vocal and supportive even in the face of adversity. That's honestly been the story of his life thus far. He takes adversity on the chin and continues to push forward.

The storylines surrounding Prescott's play on the field never stop. There are a ton of fans who hardly ever watch him play and generate their own opinions due to the sheer amount of attention he receives. It could be easy for Prescott to ignore the media whenever possible or not appreciate what they say, given what's been publicly said about him in the past. To put it lightly, fans who are haters have always had a bone to pick with Prescott.

The criticism doesn't weigh on him. Off the playing field, Prescott remains a model player in the Cowboys organization. Prescott also won the NFL's most prestigious honor, the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, in 2023. That recognizes incredible work in the community.

NFL fans may think one way of Prescott, but the full picture on his story is quite different.
