2. Cooper Rush, QB

There are already rumors that Dallas could be looking to trade one of their backup quarterbacks, with Trey Lance getting the most attention.

While it’s true his ceiling is high, the Cowboys aren’t likely to get what they would want in a deal. They sent a fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for Lance this past season and there’s no reason to turn around and take the same — or a lesser — return. Instead, they’ll likely keep him on board and continue to develop him while hoping for more down the road.

Dallas could still look to deal a quarterback though, especially if they feel confident that Lance can run the offense should Dak Prescott suffer an injury. If they do, then Cooper Rush could very well be someone worth trading.

Rush became a local hero in 2022 when he went 4-1 as the starter in place of Prescott and that led to him signing a two-year extension last year. Before landing back with Dallas, there was some interest in Rush and there could still be. Especially for a team with a younger quarterback who could use a veteran voice behind them.

For Dallas, they could clear up more than $2.2 million in space if they pulled the trigger on a deal. That might not be a huge relief for them but it’s nothing to scoff at, especially if they believe Lance can do just as well for them.
