3. Malik Davis

The Cowboys' running back depth chart is becoming clearer as camp rolls on. Rookie Deuce Vaughn looks poised to capture the RB2 role after his impressive performances in preseason and at practice, while Rico Dowdle appears to have the edge in the RB3 race. That puts the pressure on Malik Davis to ball out in the second exhibition game.

Davis found himself third in the running back pecking order against Jacksonville, handling the fewest carries (4) among this trio. He was also the least productive, totaling just 3 yards. Davis did make some nice plays as a pass-catcher, leading to 19 receiving yards on 4 receptions, but that's not nearly enough to prove he's essential.

Most roster projections seem to agree, as several beat writers have Davis missing the 53-man roster, which speaks to his long-shot status. The good news is he has another chance to show the doubters why they're wrong on Saturday. With a potentially starter-heavy preseason finale approaching, Davis needs to do everything he can in this contest to make his case.
