3 Cowboys Starters Who Will Get Benched This Season
3. Brandon Aubrey
Brandon Aubrey's performance at kicker has been watched with a close eye all camp. He may have won the battle against Tristan Vizcaino, but the war is far from over.
As I mentioned with special teams, the situation can shift on a dime. Just look at Brett Maher last season. He was one of the league's best at the position all year, then a switch flipped and he was suddenly unplayable in the postseason. All it took was a bad three weeks and his job was gone.
So while Aubrey appears to have the team's backing as its starting kicker heading into Week 1, I'm not convinced that lasts. I mean, we're talking about a 28-year-old rookie here who only started playing professional football last season in the USFL. Before that, he managed to last just two seasons in professional soccer before being released.
The track record is far from convincing here when we think about the grind of a 17-game NFL season. Again, all it takes is one bad week to plant a seed of doubt. Dallas can't afford to mess around at an important position like this, so it'd be no surprise if a veteran takes Aubrey's place at some point.
