2. Trey Lance, quarterback

One of the major storylines for the Dallas Cowboys throughout the course of the 2024 offseason was obviously the development of Trey Lance. Everyone was wondering how much progression he would show after spending an entire season in the Dallas offense, growing through more practice reps and film study.

While Lance's talent was certainly on display, so was his lack of ball security, especially in the preseason finale.

The Cowboys aren't confident enough in Trey Lance to simply make him their backup quarterback this season. They decided to keep Cooper Rush around and it looks like if anything were to happen to Dak Prescott, it would end up being Rush -- not Lance -- who would have his number called this season.

That would be two years in a row with Dallas where Lance isn't going to play if needed. Last season, we didn't even see a package of plays where Lance could utilize his running abilities to help a team that struggled on the ground almost all year.

Although Dallas kept Lance on the 53-man roster for now, you can't help but wonder if he's really just the ideal candidate to be traded at some point this season to a team that finds itself in desperate need of help at the quarterback position.

Last season, there were 67 different starting quarterbacks across the entire NFL landscape. Teams suffer injuries at the position all the time, and Lance could potentially parlay an injury opening this season into a bigger contract down the line than he's going to. get from Dallas at this rate.

Yes, the five interceptions in the preseason finale were bad, but there will still be teams out there hungry to get their hands on Lance and his tremendous talent.
