3 Dallas Stars on the Nice List (& 2 on the Naughty List) This Christmas
Nice List #2: Mason Marchment
After an 18-goal, 47-point campaign with the Florida Panthers in 2022, Mason Marchment inked a four-year, $18 million contract with the Stars ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Needless to say, things didn't go as planned. Despite playing 14 more games than the previous campaign, Marchment finished with just 12 goals and 31 points in 68 contests. He was also unproductive during Dallas' playoff run, yielding six points and a minus-8 plus/minus rating through 18 postseason outings.
The good news is that Marchment has returned to form in 2023-24. He's spent most of the season on the top line with Duchene and Tyler Seguin, and it's paying off, resulting in 10 goals and 11 assists through 30 games. Assuming that he doesn't miss a game, Marchment is on pace for career-highs in goals (27), assists (30), and points (57).
What's also impressive is that nearly half of Marchment's points (10) have come at even strength, showing that he doesn't need big special teams minutes to produce.
If his current production doesn't slow down, Marchment is an absolute at an average annual value (AAV) of $4.5 million. That alone makes him deserving of being on the Nice List.
