Last year, Cowboys fans were shocked when the front office not only traded for one talented veteran but two. They added Brandin Cooks in a deal with the Houston Texans, giving them a No. 2 wideout to work alongside CeeDee Lamb. They also added Stephon Gilmore in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

Gilmore was supposed to be the No. 2 cornerback across from Trevon Diggs but a torn ACL in Week 3 ended the season for Diggs. That meant Gilmore would be promoted to the No. 1 spot while DaRon Bland would be the starter opposite him.

While Bland got all the attention thanks to his nine interceptions and five defensive touchdowns, Gilmore held his own across from the second-year player. He also often drew the toughest assignments and handled them week after week.

Despite his success, the Cowboys never seemed willing to bring him back in 2024. He was being recruited by former collegiate teammate Jadeveon Clowney, who signed with the Carolina Panthers, but other than that, his market seems minimal.

Despite being “all-in” as Jerry Jones claims, they have avoided him even without the competition and only re-signed Jourdan Lewis in the secondary. Lewis is a talented slot corner but if there are any injuries in 2024, the Cowboys can be in trouble in a hurry.
