3 Former Cowboys Still Unemployed Entering Training Camp
By Randy Gurzi
Some teams have begun showing up for training camp and the Dallas Cowboys won't be far behind. They head to Oxnard, CA, were they will be at camp from July 25th through August 21 — and will have several practices open to the public.
They'll be aiming to take their next step after another disappointing playoff run but it won't be easy. The Cowboys had one of the least productive offseasons in recent memory and have been taking criticism for it. Dallas lost several key players in free agency and hardly added any in return.
With that in mind, here's a look at three former Cowboys still available in free agency.
3. Martavis Bryant, Wide Receiver
There was a time when Martavis Bryant appeared to be a superstar in the making. He had 126 receptions for 1,917 yards and 17 touchdowns in 36 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers — but that was between 2014 and 2017.
Plagued by off-field concerns, Bryant was suspended for the entire 2016 campaign and was traded in 2018 to the Oakland Raiders. He was quickly released by the Raiders in September but they re-signed him just over a week later — despite the fact he was facing yet another year-long suspension.
Bryant was suspended indefinitely in 2019 and wasn't reinstated until 2023. The Cowboys signed him after a decent showing in the XFL. He never played for them, spending a couple of months on the practice squad before signing a futures deal in January. He was released on May 8 and hasn't joined another team — and might not.
