3 Former Cowboys Still Unemployed Entering Week 2

Even though we've already arrived at Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, these three former Dallas Cowboys are still struggling to find work.

Seventh-round draft picks don't always pan out, but that hasn't been the case for Jayron Kearse. After being drafted 244th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2016, the ex-Clemson defender has gone on to play 119 games across eight seasons for three franchises.

Kearse spent the last three seasons with the Cowboys after signing back-to-back deals with the franchise. He started in 42 of his 46 appearances wearing the iconic star on his helmet, resulting in 170 solo tackles, 19 defended passes, 4.5 sacks, and four interceptions.

Much to the veteran safety's dismay, Kearse's underwhelming 2023 performance is likely why he's still unemployed entering Week 2. Pro Football Focus gave the ex-Tiger a career-low 40.9 coverage grade last season as he allowed 34 completions on 41 attempts (82.9%) for 371 yards and a touchdown.

While some may chalk that up to a one-off situation, it's worth noting that Kearse's coverage grade has now declined for the second consecutive season. Considering how he's now in his 30s, it's more than likely that his best days are behind him, which will make it that much harder for him to find a new employer.
